Boys don\’t like reading, it\’s these people\’s fault…

Does your boy like reading? Have you tried your best to persuade me for a long time but to no avail? The problem may lie with… the child\’s father, and the men in the family… In this globalized, knowledge-intensive, information- and technology-driven world, both boys and girls must be proactive and work hard. Just fine. Taking children to read together and setting an example for them to love reading and love reading is an excellent way of education. Having said that, there is a big difference between what a boy sees as a reading model and what a girl sees as a role model, and boys may not be like girls at all. Who are girls’ reading role models? Girls are more likely to be exposed to and accept female reading role models because mothers, kindergarten and primary school teachers, and school librarians are often women. In addition, there are more women in fields and professions that were once dominated by men, so girls have role models in these fields. Girls currently do better than boys in reading, and the performance gap is not large in math, science and technology. More women are earning college degrees in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) than in the past. And, for the first time, women became the majority in American law schools. This has never happened before. This gives girls greater access to female role models in science and engineering. Girls aged 9 to 14 are more likely to make strides in math if they have female role models in math and if parents and teachers are unbiased about girls\’ math abilities. But for boys, the situation is exactly the opposite… In the growth stage of 9-14 years old, when same-sex reading role models are most needed, many boys are not exposed to such male role models. Because of this, the lack of male reading role models means boys read less. Without reading role models to guide boys to read, boys will inadvertently lose the benefits of the reading habit. Boys who don’t study miss these things: well-rounded academic development and good grades in all subjects; stronger reading and critical thinking skills and cognitive perseverance; more comprehensive background knowledge; a richer vocabulary; stronger Writing, spelling and math skills; fully developed empathy, imagination and curiosity; less stress response. If boys start to value reading, they can open up new ways of thinking about the world. Because reading can help children understand themselves and people who are different from them, and broaden their understanding of justice, fairness and truth. However, for the reading habit to take hold, boys aged 9-14 need suitable male reading role models. It\’s obvious that many of the boys know their favorite sports inside and out. Football is such a sport that is highly enjoyable to watch. Before boys play football themselves, they have many opportunities to see their role models and gain football-related information by watching and discussing football programs. Stimulated by role models and a large amount of visual and verbal contact, boys develop a hobby of playing football. So what if you replace football with reading? Now let’s imagine what a boy’s reading model should look like.. Can your boys be exposed to a male role model who loves to read? In order for a boy to fall in love with reading, he must have a male model for him, so that the child knows what reading is like and what it feels like when reading. This is the same as football. If boys cannot see the actual reading process, the activity of reading simply does not exist for them. Male reading role models play a key role in transforming adolescent boys who do not like to read into those who love to read. Boys in this age group pay a lot of attention to the men in their lives, and if those men don\’t value reading, they won\’t read. A person who can be a boy\’s reading role model can be a father, an older brother, a teacher, an uncle, a neighbor, or a close friend of the father\’s. They must be someone with whom the boy can communicate in person, or via email, text message, or phone call. To make children fall in love with reading, fathers need to read newspapers, work documents, rental agreements and other documents in front of their children, and talk to boys about the purpose of reading in a positive way. Fathers can also participate in reading clubs with their sons and invite other men (such as friends) to join in the reading. Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or uncles can read aloud in front of their children to let them experience what reading feels like. In addition, the role of both parents in reading cannot be underestimated. Amanda Ripley discusses parenthood in her eye-opening book The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way The importance of reading role models. She delved into the results of the 2009 PISA test, the Program for International Student Assessment, which measures the academic abilities of 15-year-olds around the world. One of the key findings shows that parents and family environment can significantly affect reading achievement, even more than the role of education policy and schooling. Here are some of her findings, factors at home that schools cannot provide: Regardless of country, children who read aloud to their children when they were young are better readers; and discuss movies, books, and current events with their parents. children perform better on reading tests; if parents discuss complex social events with their children, children will also be more interested in reading; if parents regard reading as a hobby, children will also regard reading as a hobby. These conclusions are not affected by country and household income. The 2015 \”Children and Family Reading Report\” released by Scholastic, the world\’s largest children\’s book publisher, also supports Ripley\’s conclusion. Can children become people with reading habits? The following factors are strong predictors: parents love reading and have more than 100 books at home; parents believe it is important to develop a love of reading; and to encourage children to fall in love with reading, parents buy books that their children like and limit Children’s screen time (referring to time spent on computers, TV, mobile phones); parentsMothers incorporate reading into their daily plans and read the same books with their children to facilitate discussions with them. If you want boys to fall in love with reading, but your parents, especially your father, are watching TV, playing on the computer, or scrolling through their mobile phones, such a family atmosphere is useless. Dad of boys, are you ready to pick up a book?
