The peak Spring Festival travel season has arrived, and some pregnant women have to squeeze in the Spring Festival travel due to various reasons. Li Yingtao, chief physician of the Obstetrics Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, reminded that it is not advisable to squeeze the Spring Festival travel period in the early and late stages of pregnancy. Pregnant women in the second trimester of pregnancy should wear masks to prevent infection and wear diapers to prevent getting on the bus, even if they have to take the Spring Festival travel. If you are unable to urinate, wear compression stockings to prevent varicose veins.

It is not advisable to travel long distances during the first and third trimester of pregnancy

Li Yingtao reminded that pregnant women should not \”crowd in spring outings\” during the first trimester and the third trimester after 27 weeks. Due to factors such as the closed environment and poor air circulation in the carriage, pregnant women in the first trimester are prone to colds. Pregnant women whose pregnancies are not yet stable may have an increased risk of miscarriage; pregnant women in the third trimester may experience an overly tiring and bumpy journey, especially the low-pressure environment in the cabin, which will increase their discomfort and increase the risk of premature delivery and miscarriage. If you also have heart disease, a history of miscarriage, premature birth, signs of threatened abortion, etc. during pregnancy, you should not miss the Spring Festival travel rush. Li Yingtao said.

Travel: Prepare masks, changing pads, and elastic stockings

Li Yingtao reminded that pregnant women may wish to make preparations in these three aspects during the journey.

1) Wear a mask to prevent infection.

2) Put a pee pad and don’t hold in your urine. Pregnant women go to the bathroom more frequently than other people. If tolerated forcefully, it is likely to lead to urinary incontinence, urinary retention, and urinary tract infections.

3) For trips of more than 3 hours, it is best to wear a pair of professional elastic stockings to prevent varicose veins. In addition, prepare a small pillow during the trip, massage your lower limbs from time to time, and stand in place or move around the seat every hour.

Urgent labor on the way: delivering the baby in four steps

Li Yingtao pointed out that if pregnant women feel severe uterine contractions, severe lower abdominal distension and pain on trains or planes, or experience symptoms of emergency labor such as redness and swelling, water rupture, etc., they should tell the driver, train conductor or flight attendant as soon as possible. Try to stop halfway and transfer to the hospital. Go to a medical facility or seek professional help on the plane. If time is tight and conditions do not allow, you can proceed as follows:

First, we look for women with childbirth experience on site and temporarily set up a private delivery point. At the same time, evacuate people, isolate private spaces with appropriate items, and collect clean clothes for temporary use.

Secondly, the mother lies on her back, spreads her legs, and puts the prepared cloth pad under her buttocks. When the fetal head is exposed, the midwife can wrap her hands with clean cloth to support the fetal head without pulling it; when the fetal shoulders are exposed, the midwife can support the fetal head and delivery site; when the fetal shoulders are delivered, wrap the newborn with clean cloth child\’s shoulders,Then use both hands to help deliver the fetus and lower limbs; after the fetus is successfully delivered, do not pull the placenta and wait for the placenta to be delivered naturally.

3. After the fetus is delivered, wipe the newborn\’s face quickly with a clean rag to avoid aspiration pneumonia. Confirm airway is clear. If your newborn isn\’t crying yet, gently stroke your baby\’s back or flick the soles of your newborn\’s feet. After the newborn cries, wrap the newborn up and keep warm.

4. Due to limited sanitary conditions, you can tie the umbilical cord with a thread 6cm from the root of the umbilical cord or tie two knots with the umbilical cord itself. The placenta is removed and sent to the hospital for further treatment. The placenta is delivered naturally. If the placenta fails to come out naturally, do not pull it by force and wait for medical staff to arrive or send it to the hospital for further treatment.
