How to determine whether radiation protection clothing is effective

Radiation protection clothing is a special kind of clothing whose purpose is to protect the human body from radioactive materials. But how can you be sure that radiation protection suits are effective? The following will elaborate on the four aspects.

Material selection

The material of radiation protection clothing is the core of the protective effect, so different materials have greatly different effects on radiation protection. There are three main types of radiation protection materials on the market: lead wire, silver wire and zirconate titanate. Among them, lead wire has the strongest radiation resistance, but it is heavy and has poor flexibility; while silver wire has good flexibility and strong air permeability, but its radiation resistance is not as good as lead wire; zirconate titanate is a new type of radiation protection material. Its radiation resistance is between silver wire and lead wire, and its air permeability and softness are also relatively good.

Static electricity test

Radiation protection clothing is divided into two types: reusable and disposable. Reusable radiation protection clothing requires electrostatic testing. Static electricity testing refers to testing the material being tested through an electrostatic meter to determine whether the material can effectively prevent the generation of static electricity. Because static electricity will change the charge of radioactive materials, resulting in contact between radioactive materials and the human body, radiation protection clothing must be able to effectively prevent the generation of static electricity.

Gamma ray test

Gamma rays are a common radioactive substance and one of the most harmful types of radiation to the human body. Therefore, radiation protection clothing must be tested for gamma rays at the beginning of design to determine its protective effect. Gamma ray testing typically evaluates protection by placing a test sample in a test chamber containing radioactive material and then measuring the amount of radiation that penetrates the material.

Hot pressure test

Radiation protection suits generally need to be cleaned and disinfected many times, so the durability of the materials is also very high. Hot pressure testing is a method of testing durability by subjecting materials to high temperatures and pressure to determine whether the material can withstand repeated use and cleaning. If the material does not show serious deformation after the test, it means that the durability of the material has been guaranteed.

Summary

Through testing in the above four aspects, the protective effect of radiation protection clothing can be effectively determined. In terms of material selection, different materials should be selected according to different needs; electrostatic testing, gamma ray testing and hot pressure testing can conduct a comprehensive evaluation of radiation protection clothing to ensure that it is durable and has good protective effect. At the same time, when choosing radiation protection clothing, you should also choose brands with qualified manufacturers and reliable quality to ensure the effectiveness of its protective capabilities.
