Detailed introduction to the whole process of IVF

The first step: ovulation induction
First, doctors will conduct blood tests, B-ultrasounds, and endometrial measurements on women to determine whether they are suitable for in vitro fertilization. Next, the doctor will use hormone injections to promote ovarian function and promote follicle development. Multiple B-ultrasounds will monitor the growth of the follicles to determine the best time for conception, and then use chorionic gonadotropin to ripen the eggs.
Doctors will then perform egg retrieval surgery on the woman to remove mature eggs from her ovaries. This process requires the use of general anesthesia and egg retrieval guided by B-ultrasound. Typically, women can be discharged from the hospital the same day. 2-4 days after the egg retrieval surgery, the nurse will tell the woman the quantity and quality of her eggs.
Step 2: Sperm collection and screening
Next, the man needs to have his semen tested and collected, and the semen will be processed in a laboratory. Doctors screen sperm based on factors such as sperm quality, vitality, and motility to ensure that high-quality sperm are ultimately obtained. At the same time, men’s semen is also frozen to facilitate the handling of special situations such as pregnancy preparation.
Step 3: In vitro fertilization and embryo culture
Doctors then fertilize the eggs and sperm in vitro and grow them in the laboratory. Once fertilization is successful, an embryo is produced. After a special breeding process, doctors determine the best embryo quality.
Step 4: Transplantation and blastocyst culture
Doctors will use a thin tube to transfer the embryo into the woman\’s uterus, and provide progesterone injections within a week after the transfer to increase the chance of implantation. The blastocysts are also cultured after transfer to facilitate selection of healthy embryos.
