How is the construction status of maternal and infant rooms in Kunming? With the implementation of the three-child policy, it is particularly important to accelerate the construction of a child-friendly society and build more adequate and complete maternal and infant rooms. Kunming City has set up maternal and child rooms in many public places, such as shopping malls, airports, train stations, subway stations, etc., to provide convenience for breastfeeding mothers. However, although the number of mother and baby rooms is increasing year by year, the penetration rate still needs to be improved. The facility configuration, management and maintenance of some maternal and infant rooms cannot keep up, resulting in low utilization rates. This has also become one of the problems encountered by \”baby mothers\” when using maternal and infant rooms.
In Kunming, the construction of maternal and infant rooms is uneven. Some maternal and infant rooms are fully equipped, such as the maternal and infant room in the key passenger waiting room of Kunming Station, which is equipped with cribs, water dispensers, sofas, lockers, etc., and is overall clean and hygienic. In other places, the quality of mother and baby rooms also varies. Some mother and baby rooms simply provide a chair or a bed, and the sanitary conditions are not satisfactory. 
Yunnan Provincial Government As early as 2017, the \”Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Construction of Maternal and Infant Facilities\” was issued, which clarified the basic configuration standards of maternal and infant rooms, including area, floor, sink, crib, etc. In recent years, the Female Employees Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions has actively promoted the construction of maternal and infant rooms across the province. As of 2022, the province\’s trade union system has built a total of 1,303 maternal and infant rooms. These mother and baby rooms are private, safe, warm and comfortable, fully equipped and fully functional, providing convenient services for lactating women and infants.
The \”Yunnan Provincial \”14th Five-Year Plan\” Childcare Development Plan (Draft for Comments)\” recently released by the Yunnan Provincial Health Commission also emphasized the importance of promoting the upgrading of maternal and infant facilities. The plan proposes to encourage public places to configure maternal and infant rooms as required, increase the coverage of maternal and infant facilities, and strengthen the construction of comprehensive service functions of maternal and infant facilities and the design and configuration of guide signs to promote the functions of maternal and infant facilities. In addition, industrial parks where enterprises and offices are concentrated are encouraged to explore the construction of various forms of maternal and infant facilities such as shared maternal and infant rooms and temporary maternal and infant rooms.
Although Kunming has made some progress in the construction of maternal and infant rooms, the popularity and quality of maternal and infant rooms still need to be further improved to better serve lactating mothers and infants. At the same time, the whole society should jointly participate in the promotion, construction, management and maintenance of maternal and infant facilities to achieve more humane and diversified services.
