Why do many female top performers in junior high school become unknown in high school?

Many girls who have excellent grades in junior high school continue to decline in their grades after reaching high school, and eventually disappear from the public. This phenomenon is especially common in key high schools. To give an example of people around me, my family member, Mian Mian, basically ranked first in the class from elementary school to the third grade of junior high school. In the first grade of junior high school, he even ranked first in 6 of the 7 subjects in the school. However, high school was no longer good. She described it as being like a fish in water, struggling in the water and unable to learn. It wasn\’t until my junior year, when I took the second degree self-study, that I discovered new learning methods. Then I successfully passed the postgraduate entrance examination in 4 and a half months, and successively obtained several national-level registration certificates. Let’s take an example of a student I taught (the personal information has been blurred and authorized by the parents). The real example is a female student in the third grade of junior high school that I took care of. In fact, her academic performance was very good. Her parents came to me for help after being introduced. For consultation, the requirement is to explain which questions the child does not know, and to relieve the pressure of the high school entrance examination. After 3 subject consultations, I discovered some problems. This girl knows how to do all the questions, but she just knows it and doesn\’t know why. For example, what is a function? Don\’t know; what is a variable? It’s not very clear; where does the discriminant of a quadratic equation come from? I don’t know; how are the root formula and Vedic theorem proved? Never done it. But it didn\’t affect her grades in the high school entrance examination because she could get the questions right. At that time, I pointed out the child\’s problems and some concerns to the parents: the knowledge point assessment characteristics of junior high schools are relatively straightforward, and the test questions and formulas can cope with it. Coupled with the fact that children are diligent and eager to learn, there is no problem with good grades. However, there is an implicit risk in the results obtained in this way, that is, it may be too difficult to cope with the study in high school. It is recommended to finish classes in advance. At present, there is no problem in taking the high school entrance examination. You can wait until you encounter difficulties in high school before seeking help. My child did well in the high school entrance examination, but after entering high school, the problem I was worried about gradually became more and more prominent, and learning became more and more difficult, so I asked for help again. Through these two cases, let’s talk about why many girls are top achievers in junior high school but find it difficult to study in high school? If we don\’t see through the essence, it is easy for us to form an impression that girls are not good at science, girls are unable to succeed in learning, and female academic leaders can easily fall into the pedestal… In fact, these phenomena have nothing to do with the gender of the students, these are just appearances. What is the real essential issue? 1. The amount of subject knowledge in high schools is large, while the amount of subject knowledge in junior middle schools is small. Take mathematics as an example. The amount of mathematics knowledge in junior high schools is very small, the difficulty is low, and the learning requirements are also low. Most students follow the teacher\’s lectures in class and answer questions after class, and they can get similar scores, and some are even close to full marks. Due to the different personality characteristics of boys and girls, many female academic leaders will emerge in primary school and junior high school. At the same time, boys with inconsistent development may still be urinating mud. But after entering high school, the amount of knowledge in one semester of high school is probably equal to the total of three years of junior high school. If students do not understand the core of the knowledge points and how the formulas are derived, there is no way to apply and solve problems. If you expect to use the junior high school method to study the questions, you will not be able to finish it or learn even if you don\’t sleep day and night, regardless of boys or girls. 2. Chapters of high school subjectsThe focus of each section is different. Taking mathematics in the first semester of high school as an example, the collection chapter and the function chapter are the two extreme extremes of the standard. The knowledge of collection is very simple, but the teacher teaches it very hard, and the monthly exam is also difficult, otherwise there will be no distinction; but when it comes to the college entrance examination, the collection chapter is free, and it is useless if it is difficult to learn. It is the first choice to give points. Question, only 5 points. On the other hand, when it comes to functions, there are no easy questions at all in the college entrance examination, at least the difficulty level is above average. I only learned the \”odd and even properties\” and \”monotonicity\” in the textbook from the teacher, so it is difficult to score in the college entrance examination. The proposition of mathematics for the new college entrance examination in 2024 is already very clear: return to basic definitions and basic concepts, such as the second question on derivatives, and directly ask students to prove that: the graph of function f(x) is a centrally symmetric graph. When seeing this question, most students will be confused: What is a centrally symmetric figure? In the book, only odd functions are symmetric about the origin! This means that in the process of learning functions, one has only a half-knowledge, ignores the basic definitions and concepts of function symmetry, and only learns the simplest odd and even functions, without knowing how to start. In addition, in the function section in the first semester of high school, there is a less obvious knowledge point called independent variable substitution. It is not found in the book at all, but an excellent teacher will spend at least one class or even two classes focusing on it, because A series of issues involving definition domain and value domain transformation are difficult to understand. It is basically impossible to understand composite functions later. It will also affect the study of a series of chapters such as trigonometric functions, sequence, and derivatives. Therefore, in the learning process of each chapter in high school, only by grasping the key chapters and working more hard can we improve the efficiency of time utilization and do less useless work. 3. The way of thinking and learning methods in high school subjects are very different from those in junior high schools. The impact of junior high school foundation on high school learning does not lie in the scores obtained in the high school entrance examination, but in how students learn. Every exam in junior high school is close to full marks, and there are many \”pseudo-students\” who fail to pass in the first semester of high school. Therefore, starting from junior high school, you cannot just look at scores. High scores obtained by applying question types and studying papers will cover up the real problems in children\’s learning. The problem of not being good at science in high school is not the difference between men and women or the difference in IQ, but essentially the difference in the way of thinking and learning. When some children reach high school, they sleep in class, do not do homework, and play games on weekends and holidays. However, they can still ask questions in class. Part of the reason is due to talent, but the more important reason is that they have figured out what the core of the knowledge taught by the teacher is. Other details may not sound good and will not affect the understanding and application of knowledge points. As for the girls in the case, the biggest problem is that they don’t have the way of thinking that they should have when studying in high school. They simply follow what they have learned: they could still finish drawing in junior high school, but they couldn’t draw at all in high school. They couldn’t adjust in time in high school. If you don’t change your learning ideas, learning will most likely be very difficult. Therefore, what is more important than scores is the way of thinking and learning. If you find the right way of thinking and learning, you will not go astray. Both boys and girls can always be the leader.
