How should first graders \”accompany\” their children so that they no longer need to \”accompany\” them gradually? We must pay close attention to these three points

In the blink of an eye, it has been almost two months since Xuan Meier entered the first grade of elementary school. As a mother who firmly believes in the importance of companionship, in the process of accompanying her in study and life, I am also summarizing and reflecting on: \”How should we accompany our children in first grade?\” Before answering this question, first ask yourself: \”Why? Accompanying? \”In addition to the core of establishing a good parent-child connection, I believe that \”accompanying\” in the first grade is ultimately so that children gradually no longer need to \”accompany\”. Under this general premise, parents can focus on the following three points. 01 Accompany the role change. From graduating from kindergarten to entering first grade of elementary school, there is only one or two months of summer vacation in between. Children will not automatically change roles as time goes by. After entering first grade, most families will face some unprecedented challenges. When you get emotional, the most common sentence you hear is \”You are already a primary school student, why are you still like this?\” This is actually the biggest misunderstanding. It is true that no matter in terms of age or status, a first-grade child is indeed a primary school student worthy of the name. But have they really completed this role change? Not really. This kind of role change does not happen the moment you enter school, nor does it happen within a week or two of school. It may last for one or two months, or even accompany the entire first grade in one semester. As parents, what we can do is to be patient and accompany them to adapt and transform step by step in practice. 02 Accompany and lay a solid foundation From the perspective of knowledge, the amount of knowledge in the first grade is very small. For most children, they have been exposed to it more or less through play in the preschool stage, or they have understood it through common sense. Is it okay to take it lightly in first grade? Of course not. As the saying goes: \”Tall buildings rise from the ground.\” For first-grade children, no matter what the starting point is, laying a solid foundation is the top priority. Take the subject of Chinese as an example. Even if children have accumulated a certain amount of literacy before entering school and have understood the basic rules of Pinyin, parents still need to accompany them to lay a solid foundation during the first-grade learning process. Specifically, it mainly consolidates the foundation of words and can accompany children to read aloud, write more, and read more after class. Let’s take the subject of mathematics as an example. Even if children have some mathematical enlightenment before entering school and can do basic addition and subtraction calculations, parents still need to accompany them to lay a solid foundation during the first grade learning process. For example, insist on daily calculation exercises, develop good problem-solving habits, etc. 03 Accompanying self-management From \”accompanying\” to not needing \”accompanying\”, the core thing is the child\’s self-management ability. Children in first grade generally do not have good self-management skills, which requires parents to cultivate their children\’s self-management skills from small things and daily life. Specifically, from the moment a child starts attending elementary school, we should let them organize their school bags and learning supplies, and let them do what they can as much as possible. In this process, let the children gradually increase their sense of control over themselves. Only when you have a sufficient sense of self-control can you stimulate a strong internal drive in the later period and truly achieve the goal of not having to \”accompany\” your parents. 04Written in the final yearGrade 1 is the beginning of a child’s formal learning career. If you accompany him well at this stage, it will become easier and easier later on. I hope that all first-grade parents can accompany their children with enough love and patience.
