I wrote an article some time ago about the problem of too much homework, and many friends left me messages. Some expressed that they felt very sorry for their children and felt that teachers should not assign so much homework, and planned to file a complaint against the teacher and the school. Some are very entangled and feel that the homework is of little value, but they are afraid that the teacher will target their children, so they can only complain and write at the same time. Others started directly to help their children write, from elementary school to high school, and still never looked back. In fact, if you want to completely get rid of the troubles caused by homework, you only need to understand three things. 1. For every child, time, energy, and mental effort are scarce resources. Time, energy, and effort will only become less and less used. If you want to maximize your children\’s learning results, you must allow them to allocate their energy and effort to where they can produce the most output in their limited time. If children are always consumed with low-quality and repetitive homework, then the children will not have extra energy and effort to summarize, review and iterate, and they will not be able to make major breakthroughs in learning. 2. Seize the initiative in learning and maintain independent thinking. In junior high school, a student\’s score directly determines the student\’s success in further education and is closely related to the school\’s reputation. In order to allow students to get better scores, teachers in each subject will use homework to compete for children\’s time. If you look at one subject alone, there won’t be much homework, but if you add up to six or seven subjects, it will be overwhelming for the children. If you use even force, the time will definitely not be enough. You will have to stay up until eleven or twelve o\’clock every day, and your homework will be exhausted. If you don’t want your children to be the ones running with you, you must always take the initiative in learning, maintain independent thinking, and think before doing anything to see if doing so will really help your children and whether your children can withstand this kind of pressure. , whether it is suitable for this learning method. 3. You must make plans for the three years of junior high school in advance. If you want to avoid being distracted and anxious in junior high school, you must plan ahead. When you know the core tasks of each year of junior high school, which subjects should be focused on, which subjects can be slowed down, and how to study each subject specifically, you can easily find your own learning rhythm. You will be very determined about every aspect of learning, and you will not think one way today and another idea tomorrow. You can also clearly know which assignments are useful, which assignments are ineffective, which assignments should be taken seriously, and which assignments can be dealt with simply or even not done. The most important thing in junior high school is the high school entrance examination. As long as you pass the high school entrance examination, you will win in three years of junior high school. And if the child cannot pass the high school entrance examination, even if the child does very well in homework and the teacher praises him every day, it will not mean much. So, how should we deal with daily homework? Homework is assigned by teachers to all students. Most schools now do not implement tiered homework, which means that homework may only be suitable for some children, but not for all children. If the children complete whatever the teacher assigns, a lot of time and energy will inevitably be wasted, and if this time and energy are used elsewhere, it may be more helpful to the children. What homework must be done? The homework to consolidate the foundation must be taken seriously. For example, Chinese word homework, English word listeningWriting, math calculation homework, one lesson and one practice, etc. Homework that targets children\’s weak points must be completed with quality and quantity. For example, if a child\’s handwriting is particularly ugly, then the calligraphy homework must be completed carefully. For another example, if your child\’s composition is very poor, then you can spend more time to complete the composition homework. It is best to sort out the specific requirements of this composition first. You can read some sample essays first, and then outline the outline according to your own ideas. Write again. What assignments are optional? You can choose to do homework that is far below the child\’s current level or far above the child\’s current level. For example, if your child has a very solid foundation, then you should not do a lot of basic questions, because no matter how many questions you do, it will not increase your knowledge, and doing the questions is purely physical work. Or maybe the child\’s foundation is very weak and he cannot understand many basic concepts, formulas, and theorems. Then don\’t follow the trend and answer a large number of extended questions. It is better to spend more time returning to the textbook and solve the basic questions first. What homework can be skipped? For example, some copying and writing assignments. After the exam, some teachers will ask students to copy down the test paper and do it again. Copying the paper is a waste of time. Parents can do it for them and let the children use their limited time and energy on doing the paper. And there is no need to go through the paper from beginning to end. For those questions that you have mastered very well, just write down the answers directly. Focus on those where you got it wrong and got the answer right, but you don’t seem to understand the knowledge point. question. Another example is some purely punitive homework. Nowadays, some teachers like to implement a system of sitting together. If some students in the class are naughty, the teacher will ask the whole class to accompany them and punish them for copying. There is really no need to do this part of the homework. There are also some assignments that are assigned by the teacher and the children complete them without correcting or commenting, or even publishing the answers. Homework is to test the learning effect. If you don\’t correct or correct it, it will be in vain. Finally, there is one very important point. Many parents do not insist on homework, but unfortunately their children are very stubborn and are afraid of being scolded or displeased by the teacher. Even if they know that the homework is meaningless, they still have to finish it in tears, and the parents are helpless. If you have this kind of child at home, I suggest you take time to help your child with psychological development. The first is to let the children understand that we learn for ourselves, not for the teacher. There is really no need to waste time completing some assignments that are not helpful to us but only wasteful in order to give an explanation to the teacher. The second is to make it clear to children that our ultimate goal is the high school entrance examination, and all daily homework and examinations serve the high school entrance examination. When you are undecided about whether to do a certain assignment, first ask yourself, can this assignment really help me?
