Children who drink low-fat yogurt during pregnancy are more likely to develop asthma

A new study has found that babies born to pregnant women who drank low-fat yogurt during pregnancy were at increased risk of asthma and hay fever. Researchers say this may be due to a lack of protective fatty acids in low-fat yogurt. Children of pregnant women who ate low-fat yogurt with fruit once a day were 1.6 times more likely to develop asthma at age seven than children of pregnant women who did not drink low-fat yogurt. The study also found that children born to pregnant women who drank low-fat yogurt were more likely to develop allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and asthma symptoms.
