Pregnant Australian teen smokes to make childbirth easier

Smoking may reduce fetal weight. This is one of the warnings printed on cigarette packages sold in Australia. Unexpectedly, some underage pregnant women who were afraid that the fetus would be too large to have children were \”inspired\”. Simon Dennis, associate professor at the Australian National University, spent 10 years interviewing many smokers and found that some underage mothers who had never smoked before started smoking in order to make the fetuses in the womb smaller.
