Children who drink low-fat yogurt during pregnancy are more likely to develop asthma

A new study has found that babies born to pregnant women who drank low-fat yogurt during pregnancy were at increased risk of asthma and hay fever. Researchers say this may be due to a lack of protective fatty acids in low-fat yogurt.

Children of pregnant women who ate low-fat yogurt with fruit once a day were 1.6 times more likely to develop asthma at age 7 than children of pregnant women who did not drink low-fat yogurt. The study also found that children born to pregnant women who drank low-fat yogurt were more likely to develop allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and asthma symptoms. However, drinking milk during pregnancy not only does not increase your child\’s risk of asthma, but it can help delay the development of asthma.
