Improve life skills that will benefit your children for life

The Family Education Promotion Law, which will be implemented on January 1, 2022, lists \”life skills\” as one of the core contents of family education. Recently, the Ministry of Education officially issued the \”Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan (2022 Edition)\”, which completely separated labor courses from the original comprehensive practical activity curriculum, and released the \”Compulsory Education Labor Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)\”. Starting from the start of the fall semester of 2022, labor class will officially become an independent course in primary and secondary schools. Among them, the content of the labor courses for primary and secondary school students to learn to cook has aroused strong social attention and quickly became a hot topic on the Internet. In fact, cooking skills are the most basic life skills requirements and are the basic skills for children and adolescents to gradually learn to live independently. However, they are also a family education content that many parents have ignored for a long time. Some people cheered loudly, saying that the labor class was back and that they had grown up in labor; others were confused: Do children need so much labor? Some parents sigh secretly: How can they teach their children to cook if they don\’t know much about cooking themselves? Let us speak with facts. In 2014, the China Youth Research Center established the \”Research on Family Moral Education Situation and Improvement\” research group to conduct a questionnaire survey of parents in compulsory education in urban and rural areas across the country. Data from 4,000 questionnaires showed that 29.9% of parents failed to understand the relationship between exercise, labor and their children. The relationship between moral character and mental health; 41.4% of parents clearly stated that their children do not or almost never do housework; 46.7% of parents sometimes or often replace their children\’s labor, of which urban parents (50.1%) want Higher than rural parents (39.9%). These data show that nearly half of Chinese parents ignore their children\’s participation in housework. Nowadays, many parents do not let their children do housework for fear of delaying their study time. This is obviously a wrong concept. In fact, loving and being able to work will not only not delay learning, but can also promote learning and contribute to the overall and coordinated development of people. In 2014, the \”Survey on the Current Situation of Family Education of Primary School Students\” released by the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences showed that among families who believe that \”as long as they study well, it doesn\’t matter whether they do housework or not\”, the proportion of children with excellent grades is only 3.17%, while those who believe that \” Among families that say \”children should do some housework\”, the proportion of children with excellent academic performance is 86.92%, which is a huge gap between the two. A core issue that deserves more attention is that the Family Education Promotion Law regards cultivating moral character as the fundamental task of family education. Whether the moral quality of children can be truly cultivated is closely related to life practice. It can even be said that without labor education, without profound In life practice, cultivating good morals may become a castle in the air. As early as 1995, I chaired a project at the China Youth Research Center, which was a study on the childhood and education of outstanding young people. The so-called \”outstanding youth\” refer to model figures commended by the provincial level or above at that time or those who have made outstanding contributions in a certain professional field. They are generally under 45 years old. We surveyed 148 outstanding young people through questionnaires. The data shows that 81.08% of these outstanding young people often helped their parents with housework during their childhood; 13.51% sometimes did it; and veryThose who did less accounted for only 5.41%. Almost at the same time, another investigative report, \”Tragedy Begins from Juvenile – A Traceability Investigation of the Causes of Crime of 115 Death Row Inmates\” was published in the journal \”Children\’s Research\” and also provided roughly corresponding data. Data show that the crimes committed by these 115 young death row inmates all started in their youth, and 30.5% of them were once juvenile offenders. 90% of them were idle, greedy for fun, luxurious and proud, and afraid of hardship and tiredness. Most of their parents are obedient and doting on their children. What a stark and heavy contrast! Comparing the childhoods of 148 outstanding young people and 115 young death row inmates tells us what kind of life creates what kind of life, and what kind of education breeds what kind of personality. We should applaud the education sector for taking the lead in labor education in the form of a national curriculum. Labor courses are based on rich and open labor projects, focusing on purposefully and plannedly organizing students to participate in daily life labor, production labor and service labor, so that students can practice, sweat, receive exercise, hone their will, and cultivate students Correct labor values and good labor quality. There is no doubt that labor courses, if sustained, will improve the overall quality of generations of students. However, we must also be soberly aware that labor education can only be implemented if families, schools, and societies work together to educate people and adhere to the concept and principle that family education is life education. Parents should, in accordance with the requirements of the Family Education Promotion Law, consciously assume the main responsibility for family education and return family education to a better life. Letting family education get out of the misunderstanding of focusing on knowledge education and return to the right path of life education does not mean the opposition between life education and knowledge education, but the pursuit of a balance, because a balanced life is most conducive to the healthy growth of children. Only when the family provides life education, the school provides knowledge education, and the society provides practical education, these three types of education complement each other. This well-structured and rigorous balanced education can lay a solid foundation for cultivating real talents. The essential characteristic of family education is life education. Life education is the family education that minors need most, and labor education is one of the indispensable basic contents of life education. From the perspective of family life, learning to cook and wash clothes is equivalent to mastering one of the basic abilities of life. It can promote children\’s learning, family life and social skills, and will benefit them throughout their lives. It is necessary for schools to set up labor classes to teach students how to perform housework, but the more important housework education must be carried out at home, and parents are the best coaches. Parents\’ labor education concepts and methods play a key role in the development of children\’s labor attitudes and habits. We must not forget the lessons of the past. For example, some parents take care of their children\’s work, or even show off in a deceitful way. These are not conducive to the healthy growth of their children. Only through real labor can we understand the hardship and significance of labor; only by pursuing a better life can we establish the value of labor creating happiness; only by persisting in labor for a long time can we develop labor habits, and only such labor education can have help achieveThe educational goal of cultivating people with virtue.
