Key points of obstetric examination at different stages for elderly pregnant women

Pregnant women of advanced age need more protection than ordinary pregnant women, so prenatal check-up is very important. So, what is the focus of prenatal check-up for older pregnant women?

In addition to general regular examinations, what other examinations do elderly mothers need?

1. Perform maternal blood screening for Down syndrome at 15-20 weeks of pregnancy. Older mothers have a higher probability of developing gestational diabetes. Blood glucose screening should be performed around 28 weeks of pregnancy. This is a very important means of detecting gestational diabetes. It is particularly important to do this test.

2. Perform amniocentesis at 16-20 weeks. As women age, the chance of fetal chromosomal abnormalities also increases. Therefore, older mothers should undergo amniocentesis to detect whether the fetus has chromosomal abnormalities.

3. High-level B-ultrasound examination at 20-24 weeks of pregnancy. This is a common examination during pregnancy. Elderly mothers should have at least 2 to 3 B-ultrasound examinations during pregnancy, which can not only understand the development of the fetus, but also rule out very serious malformations, such as heart, ventricular and other structural malformations. Since older mothers are susceptible to hypertension during pregnancy, their blood pressure should be monitored regularly during pregnancy. If you have headaches, swollen legs, elevated blood pressure, etc., you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.

4. Fetal heart rate monitoring and pelvic measurement In the last month of pregnancy, elderly pregnant women should pay special attention to fetal movement. If possible, fetal heart rate monitoring should be done once a week to understand the safety of the fetus in the womb. In the third trimester of pregnancy, you will also need to undergo a pelvic measurement by an obstetrician to determine the method and timing of delivery based on the size of the fetus.
