Place the microphone on the abdominal wall of pregnant women so that the baby can hear the wonderful music more directly. Regarding this currently popular method of musical prenatal education, Professor Niu Fengqi from the Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences believes that from the perspective of protecting fetal hearing development, it is best not to use a microphone, which is sufficient for pregnant women to listen to music.
Professor Niu Fengqi, an expert in medical acoustics, said that whether the fetus can hear music for prenatal education using a microphone and whether it is music has yet to be scientifically proven. Because according to the principle of acoustics, sound waves cannot be heard by the fetus in the amniotic fluid, but enter the fetal auditory system through bone conduction in the skull. Due to the complex effects of reflection, refraction, scattering, and absorption from the maternal abdominal wall, subcutaneous tissue, uterine wall, amniotic fluid, and fetal skull, the music ultimately received by the fetus is severely distorted.
When some pregnant women use a microphone to listen to music for their fetus, the fetus will move more frequently. Some expectant mothers find the effect very good and the baby also responds. Some people even think that the louder the music and the closer it is to the baby, the clearer the baby can hear it. As everyone knows, unreasonable music prenatal education not only does not have the effect of letting babies appreciate music as people imagine, but sound waves, as a kind of mechanical energy, may also cause damage to the fetus\’s body and hearing organs.
Some pregnant women reported that during routine ultrasound examinations, when the doctor switched the working mode of the machine from black-and-white ultrasound to color ultrasound, the fetus would \”shock.\” In fact, this is the fetus\’s instinctive reaction to strong ultrasound stimulation. In the same way, if the microphone is directly attached to the abdominal wall, the proportion of sound waves entering the mother\’s body will be greatly increased, and the threat to the fetus cannot be ignored.
Therefore, expectant mothers should pay attention. It is best to choose relaxing, soothing and pleasant music, songs or operas when listening to music. Don\’t use sharp highs and powerful bass to make your baby\’s heart beat faster.
Professor Niu also warned expectant fathers that after a long period of evolution, the pregnancy process of the fetus has become quite perfect. The best way to take care of your baby is to keep his or her growing environment green and original, preferably without human intervention. Perhaps playing music to a pregnant woman is enough to put her in a happy mood and create a more comfortable environment for the fetus to grow.
