Pregnant mothers with hepatitis B need to prevent diabetes

Some time ago, Beijing Daily published an article \”One in six pregnant mothers has diabetes\”, which introduced that the incidence of gestational diabetes in my country is about 17.5%. After reading this article, I suddenly remembered that in the database of pregnant women with hepatitis B established by the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital, the incidence of gestational diabetes is also very high. So, what is the incidence of gestational diabetes in pregnant mothers with hepatitis B?

In this database, the number of fully recorded hepatitis B mothers has reached 1,485, of which a total of 433 hepatitis B mothers were diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy. The incidence of gestational diabetes among hepatitis B pregnant mothers is as high as 29.2%. On average, 1 in 3.5 mothers with hepatitis B will develop diabetes during pregnancy, almost twice the rate of mothers without hepatitis B.

The liver is an important place for glucose metabolism. Research shows that about 80% of patients with chronic liver disease have abnormal glucose tolerance. Therefore, pregnant mothers with hepatitis B are more likely to develop diabetes. Now, measures to prevent mother-to-child hepatitis B are very mature. Most mothers with hepatitis B can give birth to healthy babies as long as they perform scientific mother-to-child interruption under the guidance of specialists. Gestational diabetes not only endangers one\’s own health, but may also cause the fetus to be too large, increase the risk of dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage, and may also affect the health of the newborn after birth. Therefore, pregnant mothers with hepatitis B should pay more attention to the prevention of gestational diabetes.
