Pregnant women should not weigh more than 25 pounds

Ms. Li, who weighs 125 kilograms and is 165 centimeters tall, is not considered fat, but her weight soared to 170 kilograms a few months into her pregnancy last year, and her heaviest weight even approached 180 kilograms in her third trimester.

Ms. Li said that because she is prone to obesity, in order to control her weight, she pays special attention to her diet. She dare not touch many high-fat and high-fat foods. Eating more is good for the development of the fetus, so during pregnancy, Ms. Li basically ate whatever she wanted and whatever she wanted.

Although Ms. Li satisfied her appetite during pregnancy, the weight gain brought other problems to Ms. Li. During the pregnancy test, her blood sugar and blood pressure were both high, and the fetus was overweight due to excessive nutritional intake. She planned to give birth naturally, but had no choice but to have a caesarean section.

Pregnant women are overweight

Children at increased risk of developing diabetes as adults

Jiang Ping, chief physician of the obstetrics department of Shenyang Maternity and Infant Hospital, said that many pregnant women, like Ms. Li, believe that eating more during pregnancy can promote the development of the fetus, so they eat as much as they can. In fact, this idea is completely wrong.

If pregnant women do not pay attention to dietary balance during pregnancy and gain too much weight, it will increase the incidence of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension and other diseases, postpartum obesity, and increase the risk of macrosomia. Once the baby is macrosomic (delivery weight exceeds 8 pounds), it will increase the risk of maternal birth canal laceration and other problems, and increase the cesarean section rate.

If the newborn is macrosomic, the chance of developing endocrine diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in adulthood will also be greatly increased.

Recommended gain of 25 pounds during pregnancy

Jiang Ping reminded that for pregnant mothers with normal weight before pregnancy, it is more appropriate to gain about 12.5 kilograms of weight during pregnancy, and 0.36-0.45 kilograms per week in the second and third trimesters.

The most scientific method of measuring weight is: measure your weight at the same time after urinating in the morning, once a week, record your weight, and provide it to the doctor when you go to the hospital for examination.

No need to increase food intake

The reason for women\’s excessive weight gain during pregnancy is their strong appetite and large food intake, especially high-oil, high-fat and highly processed foods, such as livestock and poultry meat, fried foods, sweets, etc. Polished rice and white flour, etc. Or in order to supplement the nutrition of oneself and the fetus, blindly increase food intake, especially high-energy, high-protein, high-fat foods such as chicken, duck, meat, eggs, and milk.

Jiang Ping reminded that the growth and development of the fetus in early pregnancy is relatively slow and does not require excessive nutrition. Pregnant women will develop it on their bodies if they eat too much. Therefore, pregnant women do not need to increase their diet during the 12th week of pregnancy. Just add 200 calories of energy.
