Pregnant women should stay away from four teratogenic behaviors. The first three months are most important.

Xinhua News Agency, Changsha, September 28 (Xinhua) In recent years, the proportion of fetal and infant deaths caused by birth defects has been on the rise. Experts point out that pregnant women should stay away from these four teratogenic behaviors.

Professor Li Bixiang, director of the neonatal surgery department of Hunan Children\’s Hospital, believes that the first three months of pregnancy is the period during which important organs such as the brain, heart, and spine are formed during embryonic development, and is also the period when the fetus matures. The influence of various teratogenic factors is the most obvious.

Li Bixiang believes that to prevent congenital malformations, pregnant women should pay attention to the following points: First, avoid drug abuse. After confirming pregnancy, try to use as little or no medication as possible. Those who really need to take medication should use it under the guidance of a doctor; second, avoid contact with harmful substances. Women who have long been engaged in the production of benzene, contraceptives, anti-cancer drugs, pesticides, radioisotopes, radiation, etc., and often wear heavy makeup should pay special attention; the third is to prevent infection. In the early stages of pregnancy, special attention should be paid to preventing various infections, such as rubella virus, influenza, etc., and contact with small animals such as cats and dogs carrying Toxoplasma gondii should also be avoided; fourth, avoid smoking and alcohol. The harmful components in tobacco can delay embryonic development and cause malformations and miscarriages. Pregnant women who drink too much are prone to \”fetal alcohol poisoning syndrome.\”
