Re-read Su Dongpo’s biography and enlightenment: What can really heal a person is this

Lin Yutang recorded a dark life experience of Su Shi in \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\”. In 1079 AD, Su Shi was arrested for the \”Wutai Poetry Case\”. In the prison of Yushitai, Su Shi suffered many inhuman tortures and had the idea of committing suicide several times. Fortunately, many people interceded for Su Shi, and he was saved from death and was instead demoted to Huangzhou. But more than a hundred days in prison had already severely damaged his spirit. For a long time after arriving in Huangzhou, Su Shi lived in trepidation every day, walking on thin ice and not even daring to say a word. He can only place himself among mountains and rivers, among people, and in the sea of books every day, so that he can continue to experience and let go. In the barren mountains and rivers, Su Shi\’s state of mind became clearer and clearer, and his inner wounds were slowly healed. Later, Su Shi was demoted to Huizhou and Danzhou, and his situation became more and more difficult each time, but he never thought of seeking death again. Those dark experiences have already taught him to grow in suffering and to transcend difficulties. He became more and more open-minded and became a \”Dongpo layman\” who was admired by countless people. It turns out that what can really heal a person is never time, but experience. Time will only make a person accustomed to pain. What truly teaches a person to forget pain and let go of hurt must be those insights along the way of growth. As a saying goes, all experiences are a sublimation of life. We will eventually continue to experience and grow, and live calmly, calmly, and invulnerably. 01The thicker the book you read, the easier it is to let go of the hurt. Su Shi once wrote a poem: \”My life is wrapped in a rough cloth, and I have the spirit of poetry and calligraphy in my belly.\” Reading not only made Su Shi become talented in literature, but also had outstanding temperament. When he hit the lowest point in his life, it gave him the wisdom to transcend the desperate situation. Before Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou, he was very proud of himself and made friends all over the world; after he was demoted to Huangzhou, he had no relatives or friends, and everyone avoided him. The gap in life and the warmth and coldness of human relationships made him toss and turn every night and fell into deep internal strife. In the end, what saved him from this desperate situation was not his fair-weather friends or the so-called wealthy life, but books one after another. \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\” writes that after Su Shi settled down in Huangzhou, he stayed behind closed doors all day and surrounded himself with books. Once, his friend Zhu Zai came to visit him because he was worried that he could not bear the blow and would be depressed. Unexpectedly, Su Shi was not only not depressed, but was holding a book of \”Han Shu\” while reading and copying it. Zhu Zai exclaimed: \”You are still in the mood to copy books!\” Su Shi replied with a smile: \”I have copied the \”Book of Han\” three times, and I have benefited a lot every time I chew it.\” According to records, in Huangzhou During his four years, Su Shi read countless books and wrote more than 700 literary works. His calligraphy, painting, and lyrics all reached their peak at this time; Su Shi even dabbled in agriculture and medicine. Writer Yu Qiuyu once said: The collected documentary Su Dongpo\’s complete works are available for viewing online in high definition and are better than any movie. \”Su Dongpo fulfilled Huangzhou, and Huangzhou fulfilled Su Dongpo. Those masterpieces written by Su Dongpo in Huangzhou also announced that Su Dongpo entered the world. A new stage of life.\” Reading allowed Su Shi to let go of past hurts and walk out of life.dilemma. We are like this now, even if we are stuck in the mud, reading is still the best medicine to cure the hardships of life. When Bai Yansong was most depressed, it was \”Tao Te Ching\” that saved him time and time again; when Fan Deng was suppressed by life and almost collapsed, it was \”The Analects\” that rekindled his hope… Lin Yutang said, A wise man reads many books and experiences life. The thicker the book you have read, the more confident you will be in facing difficulties. At any time, reading is the best salvation for ordinary life. 02 The more people you meet, the more you can look down on gatherings and separations. Qu Yuan once said: \”There is nothing more joyful than new acquaintances; nothing sad comes from separation.\” In the eyes of the ancients, the happiest thing in the world is the first acquaintance; the most tragic thing is separation. Getting together, separation, and reunion has been a touching topic since ancient times. When faced with separation, even Su Shi, who has always been open-minded, can\’t help but feel sad. \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\” records that when Su Shi was serving as a judge in Hangzhou earlier, he had made a friend named Yang Yuanyu. The two have known each other for a short time, but they have similar interests and temperaments. So after work, they would often get together to talk about poetry and songs. What didn\’t last long was that two months later, Su Shi was transferred to the prefect of Mizhou and would be leaving soon. When Su Shi learned the news, he felt extremely sad. At the farewell banquet held for him by Yang Yuan Yuan, Su Shi, a grown man, burst into tears. He also wrote the poem \”Tonight when I return home, the lights are cold, and the river pond sheds tears, but the Yang Gong is named Yang.\” Later, with constant promotions, transfers, and demotions, Su Shi traveled to many places, met many people, and experienced countless separations. However, with every separation, Su Shi will grow a little bit more, and his heart will also mature a little bit. It was not until more than ten years later, when Su Shi also said goodbye to his friends, that he already had a completely different state of mind. In 1091 AD, Su Shi bid farewell to his close friend Qian Mufu on the riverside. When Lan Zhou urged him to leave, Qian Mu\’s father frowned and couldn\’t bear to leave. Seeing that his friend was so sad, Su Shi patted his shoulder and said boldly: \”Life is like a journey, and I am also a traveler.\” More than ten years of close encounters and more than ten years of personnel changes have made Su Shi accustomed to relatives and friends. The comings and goings in between. After more experience, it is natural to look down on separation. As a saying goes: \”Life is just a journey. You pass by me, I pass by you, and then we practice and move forward separately.\” People and things in the world have their time to come and go. Some people are lucky just to meet them; some people\’s departure in the end is also God\’s will. When you think about this clearly, you won\’t worry about gains and losses because of temporary gatherings; when you meet enough people, you won\’t be in pain because of the disappearance of a relationship. Life is inherently impermanent, and there are times when we gather and disperse. In a busy life, cherishing and letting go of fate is the best way to cherish a relationship. 03The longer the road you have traveled, the less flamboyant your life will be. Someone once drew Su Shi\’s footprints into a picture like this: From the picture, it can be clearly seen that Su Shi traveled to various places throughout his life, and his footprints covered most of the territory of the Northern Song Dynasty. It can be said that Su Shi spent one-third of his life on the road to being demoted and exiled. Su Shi\’s career of relegation alsoIt is a history of his growth. It is said in \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\” that Su Shi came from Meishan, Sichuan. When he first entered the capital in his twenties, he became famous through the imperial examination and became famous all over the world. With such a smooth start, Su Shi gradually became arrogant and conceited beyond words. Once, Su Shi went to visit Prime Minister Wang Anshi and saw an unfinished pen and ink on his desk, which read: The west wind passed through the garden last night, blowing down the yellow flowers and covering the ground with gold. When Su Shi saw it, he immediately laughed at Wang Anshi for not knowing common sense. He didn\’t even know that chrysanthemums only wither but never wither. So, Su Shi took up his pen and added: Autumn flowers fall no better than spring flowers. Let the poet recite it carefully. He told Wang Anshi to observe the difference between spring flowers and autumn flowers carefully and stop making such ridiculous and generous works. After Wang Anshi saw it, he didn\’t argue with Su Shi. Later, Su Shi offended many people due to his radical rhetoric and was transferred from the capital. However, Su Shi did not restrain his words and deeds. In the \”Huzhou Expression of Appreciation\” submitted to the emperor, he also complained: \”Your Majesty knows that he is stupid and unfit for the time, so it is difficult to accompany the newcomer; seeing that he is old and inactive, he may be able to shepherd the small people.\” He complained. The emperor let him out and prevented him from establishing himself in the government, which was to make the pearl fall into dust. This move is tantamount to giving someone a handle. Those who wanted to bring down Su Shi seized on this and criticized Su Shi vigorously. In the end, the \”Wutai Poetry Case\” broke out, and Su Shi paid a heavy price for his arrogance and unscrupulous words. After being demoted to Huangzhou, Su Shi often placed himself among the mountains, rivers and vegetation. One day, he went to appreciate chrysanthemums and saw the golden scene on the ground after a strong wind. He couldn\’t help but think of Wang Anshi\’s saying, \”The west wind passed through the garden last night, blowing down the yellow flowers and covering the ground with gold.\” At this time, he truly realized his ignorance and arrogance. From then on, Su Shi began to cultivate his mind and nature, and gradually became calm and steady in his dealings with others. Some people say that when you are young and frivolous, you always think that you can do everything in the world; as time goes by, you finally feel that the power of people in the world has come to an end. The longer the road you travel and the more things you experience, the more you feel your own insignificance. The so-called maturity is a process of restraining oneself. When you hold back your edge and curb your publicity, your life can reach a new height. 04The wider the world you have seen, the less likely you will be obsessed with the trivial matters of life. Someone once asked a question on Zhihu: \”What kind of person can be called someone who has seen the world?\” One highly praised answer was: He has seen the best, and does not feel happy about things; he knows the worst, and does not feel sad about himself. . Su Shi experienced three ups and downs in his life. He was an official for more than forty years and was demoted for thirty-three years. When Su Shi was in high glory, he was high in the temple and admired by students all over the world; when he was at a low point, he was able to enjoy the hardships and accept the fact that he was gradually unknown to others. \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\” wrote: \”Su Shi\’s greatest charm is not to let his heart be swallowed up by the environment, but to transcend the environment and illuminate the road of life with the light of his heart.\” The second half of his life was precarious and displaced, but good times also Well, regardless of adversity, Su Shi accepted it calmly with his broad mind. When he was in Huangzhou, his salary was meager and his family had no rice or porridge to satisfy their hunger. So he took off his scholar\’s robe and bowed down in Dongpo, so that his family could have enough food and clothing. When there was no place to entertain guests, he built a snow hall himself to entertain his friends.. When he was in Huizhou, plague was rampant and poisonous insects were everywhere, but Su Shi felt that the scenery here was just right and there were countless lychees. He built a house here and called his descendants here, intending to live here for a long time. Even in the most remote Danzhou, Su Shi was able to see the glimmer of light in the dross and live a different kind of life. Sa Beining said in a program: Su Dongpo, if he only stays in \”the moon waxes and wanes\” forever, then he will never become Su Dongpo. He is great because the direction he chose in the end was \”Don\’t listen to the sound of leaves beating in the forest\” and \”When I go back, there will be no wind or rain or sunshine.\” He has tasted all the warmth and coldness of human relationships and has seen many sides of the world, so even if fate gives him No matter how much suffering there is, he will not sink into it. And the more we experience, the more we will realize: the height of life is not about how many things you see clearly, but how many things you underestimate. If you know how to make peace with life, you can make peace with the world. Even if you are confused for a moment, the clouds and mist will soon clear up and you will suddenly become enlightened. ▽Lin Yutang once commented in \”The Biography of Su Dongpo\”: \”Su Shi is dead, and his name is just a memory, but what he left to us is the joy of his heart and the joy of his thoughts, which are immortal. \”Looking back at Su Shi\’s life, it was full of ups and downs. However, during those thorny years, he continued to read, meet people, see the world and all sentient beings, and lived his own free and unrestrained life. All the sufferings in life are here to save you. Every experience improves your self-healing ability; every setback also gives you the courage to face difficulties.
