Sharing experience in parenting middle-class children: How to cultivate good habits in children

As a parent or nanny of a middle-school child, have you ever struggled with how to cultivate good habits in your child? Good habits are one of the most important factors in a person\’s growth and are also necessary abilities. In order for your children to have good habits and develop a good character, you need to put some effort into your daily parenting. This article will share my own parenting experience from four aspects, and hope to help parents or nannies effectively cultivate good habits in their children.

Establish clear rules and reward and punishment mechanisms

Children love to challenge their parents\’ authority as they grow up, and family rules and reward and punishment mechanisms are the key to reversing this situation. Therefore, parents need to establish family rules with their children and strictly enforce them. If a child violates the rules, parents should promptly punish them so that the child knows what he has done wrong and abides by the rules. On the contrary, if the children follow the rules, parents should also give timely praise and rewards to let the children understand what is the correct behavior.
Of course, rules cannot be too strict, but should be formulated around children\’s growth and learning needs, safety and etiquette, and should not be strictly pursued.

Demonstration and guidance

The formation of children is closely related to the background of the times. They are greatly influenced by family, friends and the surrounding environment, especially adults. Therefore, parents should set an example and give their children good examples and guidance.
For example, if children learn to respect their elders or learn etiquette, parents should cultivate themselves, set a standard example for their children, and give them pertinent guidance and education. At the same time, children should be guided to actively meet their needs for self-cleaning, sleep and diet.

Develop habits independently

Cultivate children\’s good habits and establish them until they can still consciously abide by them after they become independent. This will be effective.
Therefore, parents should encourage their children to use their imagination and exercise more in family life, so that children can grow independently while overcoming difficulties, encourage children to accept their own habits more autonomously, and also allow them to develop better self-management skills.

Give your children time and respect

The process of teaching children good habits requires a certain amount of time and patience. The entire family must cooperate to create a good learning and living environment for the children, and at the same time respect the children\’s choices and wishes.
In terms of formulating habits, we should set habits according to the child\’s personality, foundation, and interests, and adopt diversified methods, which are flexible and beneficial. Our plans and steps should be appropriately changed based on the child\’s response, allowing the child to try as many beneficial behaviors as possible, and choosing behaviors that suit him based on his own development patterns and points of interest, thereby improving his motivation and self-esteem.
Finally, parents must believe in their children and believe that their children can do well. Encouraging and praising children is of great help in developing their habits.
In short, cultivating children\’s good habits requires the joint efforts of families, schools, and society. To do these things well, it is all around us. We can use these methods to educate and cultivate children anytime, anywhere.Let children have more diversified, detailed, confident and practical abilities.
