[Teaching Reflection] How to lead first-grade children to fall in love with reading

\”Onions, radishes and tomatoes do not believe that there is such a thing as a pumpkin in the world. They think it is a fantasy. The pumpkin does not speak and grows silently.\” When I first read it in Jürk Schubig\’s book When I read this sentence, I fell in love with it deeply and regarded it as a motto for cultivating spiritual flowers in barren soil. To this day, I still remember the scene when I first arrived at this school ten years ago: when I followed the navigation and found the desolate campus for the first time, I felt a little chilly in my heart. At that time, apart from a large area of resettlement houses, the most impressive thing was that the surrounding land was filled with various vegetables. In this primary school in a rural-to-non-agricultural area, the students\’ family conditions are average, and the learning atmosphere is not necessarily very good. I always think: \”The environment is like this, what can I do?\” Teacher Zhu Yongxin once said: \”A nation The spiritual realm depends on the reading level. \”Nowadays, the material level is indeed improving, but it is even more difficult to fundamentally change people\’s spiritual outlook. I chose the path of \”reading\” that is subtle and infiltrating into people\’s hearts. I hope that reading can add precious life foundation to children\’s spirits. 1. Cultivate the habit of reading. In teaching, I lead them to try everything that is beneficial to the development of students. If you want to study, you must first have books to read. Start by cultivating children\’s reading habits. Let them bring an extracurricular book to school every day, which they can read during class time; books donated by children are placed in the book corner, which can be shared with everyone; parents are asked to accompany their children after returning home. Reading enhances the relationship between parents and children. In the morning reading class, we read the classic enlightenment book \”The Three Character Classic\” together. We read and studied together in class, and asked parents to help consolidate it after class. While reading, you can also combine it with the day\’s teaching to learn pinyin and Chinese characters, which can be said to kill two birds with one stone. As the saying goes, \”You can\’t read without using pen and ink.\” Starting from the first grade, I teach children how to outline and annotate, and use colored pens of different colors to mark different categories of content. Although some children have difficulties, there are always more methods than difficulties. I believe they will become better and better as they continue to explore. One day during class, I saw a boy sitting on the steps in front of the podium, holding a book in his hand and looking through it carefully. At that time, the surrounding environment was very noisy, but he seemed to be in another time and space. I even saw the light emanating from him. I couldn\’t help but take out my phone, freeze this beautiful moment, and then sent it to his parents. Isn’t this the beauty of reading? 2. Stimulate interest in reading When I hear many children say that they like Chinese classes, I am very happy and also very worried. I am happy that my class has been recognized by them and I have a group of small fans; I am worried that how long will their \”like\” last? The teaching tasks of the first grade are relatively simple, and the children are not so stressed. It seems that you can learn it well by just messing around every day. It is not difficult at all. However, as long as parents have an understanding of middle and high school Chinese, they will know that it is not that easy to get high scores in Chinese. We often laugh at ourselves: Anyone can teach Chinese; anyone can learn Chinese. If you study your mother tongue, you can get a score of 70 or 80 in any test.Is this really the case? In first and second grade, we have a lot of time to read. If we don’t read more at this time, we will lose a good opportunity to develop reading habits. If we don’t study more in primary school, will we still have time in middle and high school? I think we all know the answer. So, how to stimulate interest in reading? Choose the right books. Choose books that interest your children based on their different hobbies. This makes them want to open the book even more. For example, my child likes to read encyclopedias, so I bought him a lot of encyclopedias. I can’t answer the questions he sometimes asks. In addition, you also need to try to recommend some other content to them based on their current learning. Some children really don\’t like the books recommended in class, and they always feel like there\’s a task weighing on their minds. In fact, as long as the books are attractive enough, children will gradually like the books recommended by adults. We can also let children go to the library or bookstore more often and let them swim in the sea of books. Provide adequate companionship. First-grade children are too young and do not have a clear concept of reading in their minds. Once, I asked the children to go back and read more extracurricular books. A child asked me very innocently: \”Teacher, what are extracurricular books?\” I laughed very impolitely at first, and then suddenly froze: Yes, we have never taught them what extracurricular books are, but just take care of ourselves. Self-consciously saying \”read more extracurricular books when you go home\”! What an irresponsible request! After the child comes home, the teacher leaves and the parents come in. What kind of companionship is efficient? Some parents will let The child hurriedly went to study, while he sat aside and played with his mobile phone, occasionally laughing \”haha\”. Just think about it, will the child be interested in reading? Some parents will read with the child. If the child can read, let him read by himself. Parents will help when they need help. When the children are older, parents can read their own books and the children can read their children\’s books. This atmosphere of sitting together and reading is like having a family reading club together. It not only allows children to find a sense of security in reading, but also enhances the relationship between parents and children. 3. Winning parents’ support for changes is never a simple matter. If you want to completely change the appearance of this land, you can only start from the deepest level. Reading happens to be such a path that must be persisted through all obstacles. Many people will envy other people’s schools, their many resources, and their ability to be better than us. When I first joined the job, there were still many thoughts in the turmoil. Now, as a teacher with ten years of teaching experience, I have begun to settle down and think about how we should take our own path. When we are worried about a certain child, parents are puzzled: My child is doing fine at home! The implication is that if he does not perform well in school, this is the responsibility of the teacher. If the environment has affected people to this extent, then there is probably nowhere to redress their injustice. And what exactly do we want to communicate with parents? Are we seeking opposition and contradiction? When a tall building rises from the ground, laying the foundation in the first grade is the key. There are many golden sentences on the Internet, such as \”There is a kind of luck that makes my teacher very strict.\” If teachers are willing to spend more energy on students, parents should feel lucky, not verybother. If the teacher is really speechless, will the parents feel happy? Everyone understands that it is difficult to educate a child, let alone a group of children. If communication between home and school is not smooth, teachers’ work cannot win the trust and support of parents, and it is too hard to rely on teachers alone to fight alone. A child is a moving car. Parents\’ support and companionship are pushing from behind, and teachers\’ teachings and guidance are pulling from the front. The good learning atmosphere of students is like the wind blowing in the face. Positive wind can make the vehicle move forward, and negative wind can make the vehicle move forward. Go off track or back off. All education is the cultivation of the human heart, and all efforts are the cultivation of perfect personality. I hope that parents can unswervingly walk on the road of reading, that children can develop good reading habits, and that we can see the results of reading and live up to our expectations. In the future, I will continue to work hard in my own garden and contribute my light and heat to this beloved cause.
