The 5 major eye problems of babies are most easily ignored. Experts remind you not to miss the golden period of treatment

Every summer, children\’s vision goes through a big test. Watching TV/computers and playing with mobile phones/iPads at home can unknowingly lead to deepening of myopia or other eye problems. Some people say this: Summer is definitely a killer of children\’s vision. If you are not careful, your children\’s vision will \”drop off a cliff.\” Indeed, if it is not detected in time or if you wear glasses with inappropriate power, your vision will be affected. So how to protect children\’s vision? What eye problems are easily ignored by parents? For this reason, Parents’ Hall specially invited Dr. Zhou Peng, an ophthalmologist from Shanghai Parkway Medical, to explain it to us in detail! ❤Children’s eye problems that are easily overlooked➤ Early myopia: In recent years, the incidence of myopia has been increasing. Taking Shanghai as an example, about 50% of primary school students have myopia, and more than 80% of middle school students have varying degrees of myopia. Many children with early myopia have basically normal vision, which does not affect their daily lives. But without intervention, myopia can progress rapidly. ➤ Amblyopia: It mostly occurs in preschool children. It is characterized by normal vision in one eye and unclear vision in the other eye. Children can see clearly through their good eye, making the condition particularly easy to go unnoticed. ➤ Color blindness: Color blindness is also called color vision disorder. When a child\’s retinal photoreceptor cells are damaged or underdeveloped, varying degrees of color vision impairment may occur, resulting in the child being unable to correctly identify some or all colors. In terms of causes, color blindness can be acquired or congenital. Congenital characteristics are mainly related to heredity, while acquired characteristics are mainly related to some diseases. When your child can recognize numbers or shapes, you can ask an ophthalmologist to check his color vision. ➤ Strabismus: Cross-eyed or exotropia. It refers to the inability to look at a target at the same time. One eye is focused on the target and the other eye is deviated from the target. The position of the two eyes is asymmetrical. Any age-constant strabismus should be evaluated immediately by a professional pediatric ophthalmologist. ➤ Intraocular tumors (retinoblastoma): Common in children under 3 years old, with leukocoria as the first clinical symptom. There is a family genetic tendency. If you find any abnormalities in your child\’s eyes, it is recommended to ask a doctor for further examination. ❤ Don’t miss the golden period of treatment ● Myopia: If your child likes to sit very close to the TV when watching TV at home and cannot see the subtitles clearly when he is far away, or often squints to see things, he may be suffering from myopia. If myopia is not treated in time, it may progress by more than 100 degrees every year. ●Amblyopia: almost no symptoms, requires regular annual physical examination, visual acuity check and optometry, early detection and early treatment. The treatment time window for children with amblyopia is very narrow, and the treatment effect is not good after the age of 7. At what age can children have a vision test? Generally, eyesight and optometry can be checked starting from the age of 3 and a half. Older children can be tested for stereo vision, color vision and fundus examination. ❤ 3 major daily vision protection methods: outdoor activities. In recent years, many international studies have found that \”outdoor\” is the key. When exposed to sunlight, dopamine is secreted in children\’s eyes, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of myopia. An average of two hours of outdoor activity per day can significantly reduce the risk of myopia. Reading in a bright environment must be done in a bright environmentBooks should be kept at least 30 cm away from the eyes. Looking out the window for 20 seconds every 20 minutes of reading can relax the muscles in the eyes and avoid muscle fatigue and spasm (pseudomyopia). Try not to look at iPads and mobile phones, and reduce the time you spend watching TV. Correct your vision in time. Once you suffer from myopia, your vision must be corrected. You can choose ordinary glasses or orthokeratology lenses (OK lenses). There are some eye drops, such as 0.01% atropine eye drops, which can reduce the progression rate of myopia by 60%.
