After I posted \”Can I hold my baby upright?\” some time ago, it attracted a large number of new questions from new mothers. After answering them repeatedly for N times, I finally remembered, why not compile them into a list? Take a look at the little problems that trouble new mothers countless days and nights. How many of them have you encountered? Is it a wrong way to breastfeed if your baby keeps burping? Many babies hiccup, and the hiccups last for a long time, which makes them feel uncomfortable. Many mothers said that they clearly burped after feeding, but why did they still keep burping? Although newborn hiccups are related to the way of feeding, the more important reason is that the baby\’s diaphragm has not yet matured before 3 months. Generally, hiccups will naturally improve after 3 months. Hiccups do not have any adverse effects on physical health and do not require intervention. Some babies can stop hiccups by feeding some water or milk, but for some babies it is not effective at all. Are you frightened when you are sleeping? Newborns will startle at every turn after falling asleep, or they will suddenly raise their heads with their eyes closed and cry loudly. Seeing this scene in the middle of the night, and thinking about the various rumors in the market, it is quite scary for a timid new mother. In fact, this is just a common startle reflex in newborns. It is not a startle reflex. It becomes less and less as the age increases, and usually disappears after 4 months. You can help your baby in this way: swaddle tightly when sleeping to reduce waking up; if you are easily frightened by sounds during the day, you can play white noise. Is there something wrong with the head shaking all the time? Some babies are lying on the bed and their heads are shaking like a rattle, so energetic that they can\’t stop at all. The old ladies were shocked when they saw it. Oh my god, what kind of rhythm is this? Isn’t it said that violent shaking can cause concussion? Could it be that it is a headache and discomfort? Nothing will go wrong, right? A survey shows that at least 1 out of every 5 babies will shake their head violently while sleeping, and some babies around 6 to 7 months old will sway around or even bump their heads. But head shaking is a way for babies to relieve irritability. Rhythmic shaking makes them feel relaxed and is not a behavioral or emotional problem. The best way to deal with a shaking baby is not to intervene, let alone stop it by force. Is having a lot of eye mucus a sign of \”getting angry\”? Most newborns have no tears or only a few tears in the first 1-2 months. Because the baby\’s tear glands are not fully developed at this time and cannot secrete a lot of tears, so there will be more eye feces. 95% of newborns\’ tear glands will be fully developed by 6 months. This is not inflammation or internal heat, let alone drop any eye drops or drink any fire-reducing tea! The correct treatment method is: use a clean cotton ball dipped in water to help the baby wipe off the secretions; it can also help the baby massage the tear ducts. Does drooling all the time mean \”getting angry\”? I don’t know what evil “Shang Huo” has done in his past life, and he will have to bear so many scapegoats in this life. There are usually only two reasons for drooling in babies aged 0-6 months: One reason is teething: It’s hard to say how long before teething begins to drool. Some children have bleeding for several months before teeth come out. For example, CC has a mouthful of water at 3 months. I look forward to teeth coming out every day, and it took me three months to get one. Some babies are dry and brittle, and the teeth will come out after drooling for a few days.. Another reason for excessive drooling is disease: the more common ones are herpetic angina and hand, foot and mouth. If your baby suddenly drools during non-teething period, or drools suddenly during teething period, it is best to check whether there is herpes in the mouth and pharynx. We have also written about these two diseases, so we will directly link them: the \”cousins\” of hand, foot and mouth and herpetic pharyngitis and buccal inflammation. Are bald pillows and sweating rickets? Need calcium supplement? Mothers often send photos of babies with extremely bald pillows. Is it due to calcium deficiency? Nine out of ten mothers will ask this question. The fetal hair will fall off after the baby is born, just like the deciduous teeth will eventually fall out and the permanent teeth will grow in. Therefore, hair loss must be normal before the baby is 6 months old. In the first few months, the baby has more opportunities to lie down, and the friction between the back of the head and the bed will naturally accelerate the shedding of fetal hair. If your baby is given a pillow with a lot of friction, the baldness will definitely be worse, but this is not due to lack of anything! Many mothers easily associate occipital baldness with rickets, because occipital baldness and excessive sweating are symptoms of rickets. If the bald pillow alone is not enough to cause panic, then adding a divine assist can\’t help but make people wary – coincidentally, the baby also likes to sweat! ! So, let’s break into the topic of baby sweating first. Babies love to sweat so much that it doesn’t seem normal. But they are really normal! Because the central nervous system that controls body temperature is not fully developed in babies, and their metabolism is faster than that of adults, they tend to sweat more, especially at night. Sometimes your clothes get soaked, but this is not an illness, a physical weakness, or a lack of anything! If you sweat a lot while sleeping at night, you must first consider whether it is too hot. Of course, you cannot refer to adult standards. Usually babies need less coverings than adults. The standard for judging hot and cold is that the neck is warm and the hands and feet are not cold. If you feel sweat on your neck, it must be too hot. Your baby does not need a quilt to sleep, just wear pajamas or sleeping bags of appropriate thickness. Therefore, although excessive sweating and occipital alopecia are symptoms of rickets, rickets is not the only cause of these two symptoms. Furthermore, rickets is not caused by calcium deficiency, but by insufficient vitamin D intake. Breastfed babies rarely develop rickets as long as they are supplemented with vitamin D on time and in the right amount. I have written about VD supplementation in detail before. If you haven’t read it, you can just point it out. It turns out that what your baby has been lacking is not calcium, but vitamin D! What should I do if my newborn baby catches a cold due to stuffy nose and sneezing? Breast milk has its own antibodies. It is true that the proportion of babies under 3 months old is not high, so when some mothers came to ask anxiously at first, what should I do if their newborn baby catches a cold? Get angry. Although we recommend not rushing to the hospital for common childhood illnesses, it is really troublesome for newborns to get sick. But upon further questioning, 90% of cases are just false alarms. Many mothers simply mistake \”newborn nasal congestion\” for \”cold nasal congestion\”. The reason why many babies\’ noses are not well ventilated is because the nostrils are too small. Once the air quality is poor, such as on hazy days (it will be affected even if the windows are not opened), or the air is too dry, the boogers formed will be It will be numerous and hard, blocking part of the nostrils. It affects the baby\’s breathing and makes it sound like wheezing. You can put a drop of salt water or breast milk into your nostrils to help soften the boogers; you can usually turn on a humidifier to maintain indoor air humidity. The second symptom of the \”so-called cold\”, frequent sneezing, is also caused by the stimulation of boogers. It is a normal reaction of the baby\’s nasal cavity to clean itself and expel boogers. Of course, in addition, sneezing may also be caused by stimulation from dust, temperature, etc. In short, to judge whether a newborn has a cold, it still depends on whether there is runny nose and whether the body temperature has increased.
