A friend asked me what I thought of the \”nature education\” and \”happiness education\” that are very popular nowadays. This reminds me of the time I sent my son to kindergarten. Since the elderly on both sides of the family were in poor health and could no longer help us take care of the children, we sent our son to a private kindergarten when he just turned two years old. Of course my son was unwilling to go. The first time I sent him to kindergarten, he resisted very fiercely. No matter how I tried to persuade him, he just kept crying, \”No! No! No matter what you say!\” Of course, we have to go to work. We were able to put him in the kindergarten and let the teacher hold him forcibly, and then we left resolutely. Later, I once asked my son, after sending you to kindergarten, did you still cry and say \”No! No\”? The son said he was still crying. I asked, \”What did the teacher say?\” \”The teacher said, \’You have to do it even if you don\’t do it!\’\”, my son replied. In fact, most children have to go through this level when they go to kindergarten. They cry constantly and want to go home with their parents. Around me, there are actually some parents who send their children to kindergarten every year, only to hear their children cry and become heartbroken. They are unable to send their children to kindergarten every year, and in the end they have to go directly to elementary school. Of course, the child still cried on the first day of elementary school, but the parents no longer dared to take it back and had to hand it over to the teacher. Having said all this, I just want to express that if we look at children’s nature, they definitely don’t like going to school. Human beings may be inherently good or evil at first, but it is certain that no one loves learning. If we completely follow the \”nature\” of children when educating them, and they can do whatever they want to do, and they can\’t do anything they don\’t want to do, I\’m afraid they won\’t even be able to get past the starting line of education, and they won\’t even go to kindergarten. I especially appreciate a sentence: \”There must be an element of pain in education.\” People always hate pain. Following the nature of children, they will inevitably stay away from education, and even end up going astray. There is an old movie called \”Bitter Fruit\”. Sister Lin Qiang and brother Lin Yao are a pair of orphans. One day, my sister and my brother passed by an apple stall, and my brother suddenly jumped on the apple basket. The sister touched her withered pocket and had to take her brother away by force. When they were almost home, my sister discovered that there was a big red apple in her brother\’s pocket! The elder sister raised her hand to hit her younger brother, but the younger brother burst into tears. The elder sister relented, she put down her raised hand, squatted down, and stuffed the apple into her younger brother\’s mouth… The younger brother kept growing up, but every time he did something wrong, his elder sister would be forgiving. In the end, when my sister was trying to stop her brother from committing a crime, she was injured by him and fell into a pool of blood. The younger brother was arrested. Lying on the hospital bed, Lin Qiang said regretfully: \”I am the murderer, and what I swallowed is a bitter pill.\” It is a child\’s nature to want to eat something delicious, but her sister should educate him to steal. Something is wrong, and it cannot be determined by his temperament. If the sister had resolutely not indulged her brother from the beginning, there would have been no subsequent tragedy. The role of education is to teach children cultural knowledge and social rules. Learning knowledge requires hard work, and obeying rules must be constrained. This also means that receiving education is not a comfortable thing. People are lazy,They are also unwilling to be restrained, which also determines that education cannot completely conform to \”nature.\” In a sense, education is actually the process of overcoming some bad natures. A child\’s growth must be restricted, and he must do things that conform to the norms of this society but are unwilling to do. This is the same all over the world. In this world, there is no knowledge or skill that can be obtained effortlessly, and there is no social rule or legal provision that allows us to do things according to our temper. There is no absolute nature education or happiness education in the world, and all educated people must be restricted and bound. Only on this basis can we develop the good part of our nature and make education as entertaining as possible. If you believe in the so-called nature education or happiness education and ignore the children and allow them to develop freely, it will only harm the children.
