Some mothers raised questions: \”It\’s true that it\’s good to love reading, but now there is a tendency to take reading too seriously. Do you understand why you should start reading picture books to your baby before he is one year old? Don\’t say that. How to cultivate the habit of reading in children? Children under one year old cannot get much pleasure from reading. Why can\’t we start reading when the baby is 2 or 3 years old and can start to communicate?\” I respect this mother\’s opinion very much. So today let’s talk about reading in children’s enlightenment stage. I will also add some new perspectives, hoping to help everyone. Let’s first talk about what reading is like for children? Many times, what parents understand reading is like, and they subconsciously think that their children\’s reading is also like that. However, children\’s reading is different from the way we adults do. Especially around 1 year old. Children at this stage of reading cannot read words or even look at the pictures you unfold. They will only take a few glances or touch the things that interest them. Even take a bite or put it in your mouth to taste it. I also found that some children would cover their faces with books and smell them with their noses, or use their little faces to feel them. In fact, this is how children read in their early years. They use all their sense organs to read (maybe you think this is not reading). Just because they think their children cannot read, many parents refuse to introduce books to such a young baby. Every time friends come to my house, I give their children some books. Last time, a friend\’s baby was just half a year old, and I gave him a set of flip books. He was very surprised and asked me if such a young child could understand. (Subconsciously, it should feel incredible and unnecessary.) I say just turn it over to your baby and use it as an interactive toy between you and her. There are also many parents who take it for granted that their children do not need to read before they can read. Therefore, it is easy to miss the golden period of reading enlightenment between the ages of 2 and 6. You must know that children in this period do not need to be literate to read. They rely on reading pictures and listening to stories to complete reading. A lot of the time it comes down to imagination and memory. They will remember the stories their parents tell them. As soon as those pictures were opened, stories immediately came out, and I would add things from my imagination. What should I do if someone says my child can’t understand? We don’t need children to understand! Reading picture books is not a grade test. You must understand, memorize and answer questions. Take the picture book \”Beast Country\” as an example, looking at the magical experience of a rebellious little guy. Children don\’t need to understand, they just need to feel the process of rebellion and feel the warm meal cooked by their mother in the end. In fact, books are as natural as the clouds in the sky, the trees on the roadside, and the small toys at home. If you look at it this way, you won\’t think there is anything wrong with reading at the age of 1. When you truly define your child\’s reading, you will find that there is nothing to reject and nothing to deliberately ask for. Let’s talk about the fun of reading. The mother said that children under one year old cannot get much fun from reading. Of course, some kids didn\’t get to have fun. This is not a question of age, but a question of method. Are the books chosen by parents suitable for their children? What is the purpose of parents reading to their children? What should parents do during the reading process?of? Picking these three questions at random will affect your child\’s reading pleasure. Suppose you read to your children some of the poorest computer-drawn storybooks on the market. You read them in order to let your children learn knowledge. During the reading process, you rush to preach and ask your children if they understand. Such reading guidance will only make children unable to feel any fun. So where does the fun come from? It still comes from respect for children. Respect children\’s interests and reading methods. When a child over 1 year old reads a page of pictures, he may turn a blind eye to what you expect him to see, and instead likes a small black dot or a small flower. Then talk to him about things that interest him, not things that you expect him to like. There are also children who want to play every time they just look at them, so play with them. They may not love reading, but they just love the feeling of you playing with them. When he is next to you and has nothing to do, take out the book and play together. Every child’s attention span is different. Don\’t think that children over 1 year old can sit still. For children aged 0-3 years old, I have always emphasized taking them outdoors more often. Nature is the best school, when children can find happiness in nature. Then you will also experience another wonderful pleasure while reading. But our purpose must be to adhere to a \”fun\” concept, rather than forcing children to read for the sake of reading. Finally, let’s talk about the importance of early reading. I watched a speech some time ago, the speaker was Scott Rozelle. It mentioned the \”1000-day hypothesis\”. The \”1000-day hypothesis\” is very simple – 90% of our brains, our cognition, and our IQ are determined by the development from 0 to 3 years old. There are many other abilities that develop after the age of 3, and your non-IQ abilities will come into play. But by the age of 3, our brains are basically set and cannot be improved, or it is difficult to improve. But in China, most people don\’t realize this. He said: When I was in rural China, I heard too many grandparents asking me in surprise: Why do we talk to babies? Why sing to him? Why give him toys? He found that from four months before delivery to after birth, there was a gap in IQ between infants and young children in rural areas who lacked sufficient cultural stimulation and those who grew up in cities and interacted properly with their parents since childhood. , which has appeared since the age of four. Through research in rural areas, he raised the problems faced by rural children: half of rural babies do not have a good IQ that can be used for learning throughout their lives. But whether they are rural children or urban children, they all need enough stimulation when they are 0-3 years old. Why put this out there when talking about the importance of reading? Because this gap exists among many families. I used to do book research in some good kindergartens in provinces and cities, and found that almost all children in good local kindergartens have their own small bookcases filled with picture books and children\’s books that they have read. It is very easy to communicate with these mothers about reading, because everyone has a common cognitive foundation. Everyone generally agrees that reading is of great help to children\’s cognitive and IQ development. And in towns and villages, in good kindergartensFew children have their own bookcases. And fewer families accompany their children to read. This is the reality of the gap, not just the gap between urban and rural areas. Some mothers say that we overemphasize the importance of reading. And in fact? (Picture source: Professor Rosgaard’s speech) Nearly 80% of rural families have only one children’s book or no book, and they have no books. The reading rate of our children is very low. Our national reading ratio is also not high in the world. Please give your children a good reading enlightenment as early as possible. In your own way, with the attentive company of your parents, start a reading journey. If you\’re on the road, find what works best for your kids and stick with it. If you are still hesitating, please take action and give it a try! Effective early reading enlightenment will bring happiness to children and lay a solid foundation for their future learning.
